Semitic Labs ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Mezgebe Qalat mobile application (the "App"). Your privacy is our top priority. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and your choices regarding that information.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information collected automatically
The App uses Google Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage data. This may include:
- Device type, operating system version, and screen size
- App version and crash/error reports
- General usage patterns (screens viewed, session duration)
- Country-level location derived from IP address (no precise location)
This data is collected in aggregate form and cannot be used to identify you personally.
1.2 Firebase Remote Config
The App uses Firebase Remote Config to retrieve application configuration values from our servers. This service may transmit your device's IP address and app instance identifier to Google's servers. No personal data is collected or stored by this process.
1.3 Voice search (microphone)
The App offers an optional voice search feature that uses Android's built-in speech recognition. When you choose to use this feature:
- The App requests microphone permission at runtime — you can deny or revoke it at any time
- Audio is processed by the device's speech recognition service (typically Google); the App itself does not record, store, or transmit audio
- Only the resulting text transcript is used to perform a dictionary search
1.4 Information we do NOT collect
- We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other personal identifiers
- We do not collect precise location data
- We do not collect contacts, photos, or files from your device
- We do not require user accounts or login
- We do not collect or transmit your search queries to our servers
2. How We Use Information
The anonymous analytics data is used solely to:
- Understand how users interact with the App to improve its features
- Identify and fix crashes or technical issues
- Measure overall App performance
3. Data Storage and Security
- The dictionary database is stored locally on your device and encrypted using SQLCipher
- Search history and bookmarks are stored locally on your device only and are never transmitted
- Analytics data is processed by Google Firebase under Google's Privacy Policy
- We have disabled Android cloud backup for the App to prevent sensitive data from being backed up to external servers
4. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:
| Service | Purpose | Privacy Policy |
|---|---|---|
| Firebase Analytics | Anonymous usage analytics | View |
| Firebase Remote Config | App configuration | View |
| Google Speech Recognition | Voice search (optional) | View |
The App does not integrate any advertising networks or user tracking technologies beyond the services listed above.
5. Data Retention
Firebase Analytics data is retained for 14 months, after which it is automatically deleted by Google. Local data on your device persists until you uninstall the App or clear its data.
6. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
7. Your Rights and Choices
- Opt out of analytics: You can limit analytics collection through your device's privacy settings (Settings > Google > Ads on Android)
- Revoke permissions: You can revoke the microphone permission at any time in your device settings
- Delete local data: You can clear the App's data or uninstall it to remove all locally stored information
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
